Go Ahead

READ this

Yes, the famous speeches links are coming soon. I just need to figure out how, and then find the time.
Radio National's First Person is carrying them as 'audio on demand'. 'Audio on demand' is typically on for only 2 weeks after they have been presented on radio.

not really.. used to accompany my grandfather to the mission during visits to kerala.. other than that, I read swamijis books but have never participated in mission activities.

one day we were talking about if coming to the mission was helping us and i am repeating my story below -

i had been introduced to vedanta for a while, but i really even heard of CM after coming to Melbourne. the difference really is when people disagree with you, it makes you get out of your box. like you read something and you start believing it means something. many times you see what you believe is not working but you dont have a clue why. for times like those it helps to have people around who can give a fresher perspective - in other words, help you get out of your box, which perhaps you dont even realise exists. and having groups at CM is good because they where you are coming from.

oh and i must add, my favorite bit was that there were 2 physicists in the group. physics and maths and vedanta mixes really well :D

i guess im just a little sceptical about the effectiveness of organisations towards personal growth. perhaps its because ive seen ego clashes even at places like these which were constituted for running temples or missions. at any rate, if im willing to introspect ruthlessly, that little voice inside my head can be pretty frank. :D and for me atleast, religion is a personal quest at the end of the day :)

but you must expect ego clashes everywhere. just because some people aspire to be someone better does not make them lovely people to start with. i guess it is infact a testament to your own development if you can pass people without judging them and sometimes with a feeling of sympathy regarding how difficult it can be put ideals to use. and then maybe not repeat the mistake yourself.

what i am pointing at is the limitation of self study and books alone. we would never have schools if such an idea was plausable. this does not mean that schools are perfect or you do not have to be self reliant or that you surrender your brains and idealise anything at all.

it simply means being on journey with someone is, many times, much more enjoyable. and many times, more beneficial because we do get caught in our own little box.

in fact, if you are like me and ever changed schools, you would have hated going to schools the first day because they are one out-of-the-comfort-zone experience, full of people you know nothing about.

having said all the above, no one thing fits all, and it is not my intention to push you to the mission. my idea was to share an experience which i definitely enjoyed. :)
