Solitary confinement and the question of faith

I was wondering about solitary confinement; and why we need an external/objective confirmation of our experiences - see here, for example; or the fact that Rudd's apology to the stolen generation was such a big deal.

Isn't it also one of the reasons why we read? or gossip? or talk?

And I wonder what that says about our faith, what do we believe in? Does this mean that we don't completely believe in all that we experience, that we treat our own experiences with scepticism?

Anyway, here is a very interesting article on the topic of solitary confinement -A History of Hard Time by Daniel Brook.
